Apple sends out invites for a September 9th event

Apple has just sent invitations to the press for an upcoming event on September 9. The rumors have pinpointed the date already, so it is hardly a surprise.
Apple is expected to unveil the worst-kept under wraps iPhone - the 4.7" iPhone 6. If we are to trust some previous rumors, the iWatch smartwatch will be joining the next generation iPhone as well.
With the recent LG G Watch R announcement and the upcoming Moto 360 smartwatch, Apple should be in a hurry to capture some of the wearable momentum. It has already snagged a former Tag Heuer's VP of sales, another proof the iWatch announcement is happening sooner than later.
Apple also acquired Beats Audio this year, so we might see some interesting results from this collaboration announced at the event, too. Hopefully Apple has managed to keep some key features a secret through all of those leaks and will manage to surprise us in ways that go beyond the sapphire glass.
Finally, the iOS 8 is expected to start seeding to all compatible iDevices on September 9 as well.

International HTC One (M8) for Windows got Wi-Fi certified

The HTC One (M8) for Windows launched as a Verizon-exclusive but AT&T was quick to announce that this is a temporary exclusivity and put up a signup page. There's going to be an international version, which was certified with Euro LTE bands.
The international version has passed through the Wi-Fi certification body. The certification document doesn't reveal much – just the Wi-Fi spec, which is dual-band 802.11/a/b/g/n.

There's no word on how long Verizon's exclusivity will last but it's collecting all the necessary certifications. The Verizon version already got a price cut so we can expect the GSM model to launch straight at that price.
You can read our preview of the HTC One (M8) for Windows (the Verizon version) for more info on the device

Lenovo X2 makes an appearance at TENAA ahead of IFA 2014

An unannounced upper mid-range Android smartphone from Lenovo has appeared on the Chinese TENAA website. Dubbed the X2, the smartphone has passed certification in the country and has revealed a decent sounding specs sheet in the process.
The Lenovo X2 will be available in two versions with model names X2-CU and X2-TO. The X2-CU is powered by an octa-core CPU, presumably residing in a MediaTek chipset, while the X2-TO packs a 2.2GHz dual-core processor. This is the only difference between the two as both feature a 5" 1080p display, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.
At the back, both Lenovo X2 versions feature a 13MP snapper with LED flash and a 5MP front-facing camera. Their dimensions are 140.2 x 68.6 x 7.27mm and the overall design is a bit reminiscent of Sony's Xperia Z-series of phones.
With the certification process done with, Lenovo should launch the Android 4.4 running phones soon enough. Nothing particular has been hinted by the manufacturer, but the IFA 2014 which is starting next week would be a convenient occassion.

LG G Watch R gets unveiled with round P-OLED display

After teasing it a couple of times, LG took the wraps off the decidedly premium G Watch R. The Android Wear device will be showcased at the company’s booth during the upcoming IFA convention in Berlin.
The main feature of the LG G Watch is its display. As the R letter in the name kindly suggests, the screen is a 1.3" fully circular Plastic OLED display with a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels. The Korean manufacturer took a jab at Motorola’s Moto 360 by pointing that the screen of the G Watch utilizes 100% of its face (the screen of the competitor doesn’t).
LG G Watch R packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC with 1.2GHz CPU and 512MB of RAM. The rest of the device’s specs include 4GB of built-in memory, 410mAh battery, and the usual bevy of sensors (gyro, accelerometer, compass, barometer).
The smartwatch is IP67 dust and water-resistant. It is available only in black.
LG G Watch R will begin rolling out in key markets in early Q4 (in time for the holiday shopping season). Pricing and exact availability will be announced during the device’s local launch.

Official Samsung Galaxy Note 4 wallpaper leaks out

The official Samsung Galaxy Note 4 wallpaper made the rounds online. The colorful image confirms the QHD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution of the upcoming phablet’s display.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 official wallpaper (click to view in full resolution)
The original size of the image you see above is 2560 x 2560 pixels. This should hardly catch anyone by surprise as, typically, wallpapers for Android devices do not have the exact resolution as its display in order to be able to accommodate extra homescreen panes.
Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will debut at a global Unpacked event next week, on September 3. The Korean giant already released a number of teaser videos to mark the phablet’s imminent debut.
We will be covering Samsung’s Unpacked event live, so be sure to tune in to find out what the company has in store.

Samsung to make a 7-inch smartphone

Smartphone screens keep getting bigger and too bigger. Phablets push the boundaries of pocket-friendliness (let’s be honest, that threshold has been crossed a long time ago), but now Samsung is looking to create a 7” handset to usher us into an era of mobile screen size ridiculousness.
Welcome the Samsung SM-T2558, the cell phone with the largest display size to date.
The monstrous handset was spotted on the Chinese site TENAA, which delineates certification approvals for cell phones and various other consumer tech products.
Rumor has it that the tablet-with-phone-capabilities will be part of the Galaxy family, and will be named the Galaxy Mega 7.0. Specs wise it doesn't pack anything eye-popping: a 1.2GHz quad-core processor with 1.5GB RAM, 8MP primary and 2MP front-facing camera, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, and 8GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot to boot. It’ll also run on Chinese 3G/4G networks: TD-SCDMA and TD-LTE.

Xiaomi will sell its smartphones in ten new markets this year

Xiaomi announced its plans to enter ten new market this year. The Chinese manufacturer’s founder and CEO Lei Jun delivered the news at a press conference in Beijing.
Xiaomi will begin sales in large developing markets such as India, Brazil, Russia, and Mexico. The rest of the list of countries includes Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Turkey. The move is part of a plan for international expansion. Xiaomi has a goal to increase its sales five-fold to 100 million handsets in 2015.
Four years after entering the industry, Xiaomi has enjoyed considerable success in China (the company sits ahead of Apple with 7% share in its home market), Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore. The Chinese manufacturer is known for selling its keenly-priced devices directly to consumers online - a process which generates impressive sales over short periods of time.

OnePlus One is official, runs custom CyanogenMod 11S

Finally after months of teasing and releasing details one bit at a time, OnePlus announces the One - its first Android smartphone.

In terms of specifications, there's little surprise. The OnePlus One features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 (8974AC) platform with a quad-core 2.5GHz Krait 400 CPU, 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM. The display is a 5.5" full HD JDI-made, resulting in a pixel density of 401ppi.
The OnePlus One runs CyanogenMod 11S based on Android 4.4 KitKat. The company has worked closely with the ROM team to release a special minimal and flat UI. There are also a bunch of custom themes and icons specially made for the device.
OnePlus put a great deal of effort into the design of the One and its hows. The company tried materials such as stainless steel and aluminum for the One, but with a weight of 198g and 175g, respectively, was unacceptable. As a result, the team chose magnesium for the build of the phone and it brings down the weight of the phone to 162 grams. In fact, OnePlus claims this is the lightest 5.5" smartphone in the world.

Interestingly, the company admits that its only regret is that it wasn't able to use metal borders for the One. The problem is that it was creating signal issues as well as added unwanted weight to the body of the phone.
The One measures 152.9 x 75.9 x 8.9mm with the edges of the phone measure 4.6mm. At the bottom, there are dual stereo speakers and popular audio company JBL helped for their fine tuning.
At the back, the OnePlus One features a 13 MP Sony IMX214 Sensor with 6 Lenses and f/2.0 Aperture. We already saw it in action in the hands of a professional photographer as well as its 4K video recordingskills. The camera is capable of quick shutter speed of 0.3 seconds.

The back cover of the OnePlus One is removable and the company is also launching special StyleSwap covers. Available in bamboo, wood, denim and kevlar, the StyleSwap covers add a dash of personality to the One similarly to the Moto X. Sadly, the 3,100mAh Li-Po battery isn't user replaceable.

The OnePlus One will launch in Q2 with Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, UK and the USA getting it first. More markets are expected to follow suit soon after.
Available in Sandstone Black and Silk White, the unlocked 16GB OnePlus One will retail for $299 (€269 in Europe) and the 64GB model will cost you $350 (€299 in Europe). In the UK, the phone retails for £229 and £269 for the 16GB and 64GB model respectively.

Here are the prices in Sweden, Denmark, Honk Kong and Taiwan. Mind you, the price for Hong Kong is HKD 2599.

EXCLUSIVE: LG G3 screenies show new Optimus UI, QHD res

We just got hold of a few new screenshots taken directly from the LG G3. They not only show how the latest Optimus user interface is going to look like, but also confirm the phone indeed features a QHD resolution display (2560x1440 pixels).
These screenshots were provided to us by a credible industry source. Our source tells us that the title "You may want to take an umbrella since rain is expected during this afternoon" on the first screenshot is in fact a new feature, which combines the weather forecast with your habits to provide you with a personalized recommendations for your daily routine.
The overall look and feel of the latest Optimus UI (on top of Android 4.4 KitKat) is very clean and flat, a trend that a lot of manufacturers are embracing. Everything from the icons, launcher and notification drawer is less cluttered and looks very nice.

The quick settings toggles are rounded icons, similarly to the latest Samsung TouchWiz UI on the Galaxy S5. The position of the QSlide Apps remains unchanged, but still, the notification drawer seems too busy for our taste.
Here's a full resolution screenshot for you to gaze at, as we had to shrink the rest to a reasonable web-friendly size.

LG G3 QHD resolution screenshot
Unrelated to these screen caps, recent rumors claim the LG G3 is going to be based on the JapaneseLG isai FL, which leaked a few days ago. The Japan-only smartphone sports a quad-core Snapdragon 801 SoC, clocked at 2.5GHz, a 5.5-inch LCD rumored to have 2560x1440 resolution, 2GB RAM, 32GB internal memory with microSD support, 3000mAh battery, and an IPX7 rating, which means it is water resistant.
Do you like the look of the new and upcoming Optimus UI better than the old one? Feel free to express your opinion in the comments section.

Huawei Ascend P7 pops in AnTuTu, Kirin 910 CPU gets tested

The upcoming Huawei Ascend P7 just can't stay away from the internet. It has already leaked so many times that we probably know everything there is to know about the smartphone.
The Ascend P7 has already leaked in many live pictures, various spy shots, Chinese's TENAAcertification docs, official-like renders, and even the nice live shot below. But today the smartphone got benchmarked for the first time since the leaks have begun.

Huawei Ascend P7 went through AnTuTu's tests and thus its specs have become public. We already knew the 5" 1080p droid runs on Huawei's latest Kirin 910 chipset with 2GB RAM.
